2015 Annual Meeting Minutes
The meeting convened at 10:00 AM on December 12, 2015, at the Waikoloa Village Association
community room.
Secretary in attendance and recorder of minutes: Kyle Combes
Board members present: Harold van Doren, Ted Cassinelli, Mike Bernstone, Kyle Combes, Jim Albone, Lisa Legler, Mike Chinquee
Head coach Daniel Legler present.
Members in attendance: about 30
President Harold van Doren opened the meeting.
Previous meeting minutes
- Jim motions to accept previous meeting’s minutes. Unanimous approval.
Treasurer’s Report (Mike Bernstone)
- Lower revenue this year, primarily due to lack of fundraising events
- Expenses down, net income comparable
- Netted $5k off GWCR
- Membership about same, revenue from rack rentals up due to new racks
- Motion to approve. Unanimous approval.
President’s Commentary (Harold van Doren)
- Equipment
- Daniel built new canoe racks
- Beth Biscardi make new canoe covers
- Code of Conduct simplified
- Bylaws in process of being updated
- Made donation to Miloli`i to cover accident
- Ted Cassinelli’s truck damaged in rear-end accident
- Donation made to Chris Nilsen’s family, received sincere thank-you letter
Kama O Kalani status (Daniel Legler)
- Daniel has talked to several boat builders over the year, discussed status of canoe
- Five or so various small repairs made over the past year
- Going for complete rebuild to fix all defects
- Cut deck out, use wider planks
- Twisted in front and back
- $40,000 for Doug Bumatay to repair: $10k deposit, $10k/year
- Will have done by 2016 regatta season
- Question: How much for new koa canoe? Daniel: $120-$150k, three-year job
Kama O Kalani Fundraiser (John Ciambrone)
- Just getting started with fundraising
- Plan:
- Ask those closest to organization (i.e., members) to support effort
- Donations tax-deductible
- All donations, of any size, greatly appreciated
- Approach local foundations and corporations
- Will ask how much members have donated (percentage of members donated important)
- Ask those closest to organization (i.e., members) to support effort
- Question: $27k in koa savings account. Mike B: That will cover initial down payment, want to use that as little as possible.
- Comment: What if we set a member goal of meeting 50%? $20,000 is a more accessible goal.
- Question: Could we spread the fundraising over multiple years? John: Could do, might be a paperwork nightmare. Will look into more if members are interested.
