Waikoloa Canoe Club

Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Note: These minutes were amended to remove an illegal motion to suspend Article IV section 4.04 of the WCC Bylaws.

The meeting convened at 6:00 PM on May 4, 2016, at the Waikoloa Village Association conference room.

Secretary in attendance and recorder of minutes: Kyle Combes

Board members present: Bob Risley, Mike Bernstone, Kyle Combes, Jim Albone, Daniel Legler, Lisa Legler

Board members absent: Guy Davis

Head coach Bob Risley present.

Members in attendance: Steve Columbo, Jun Balanga, Chris Young, Philip Beasley, Jalinda Beasley, Aron Risley, Michelle Gautier, Charles Kaili

Vice President Bob Risley opened the meeting.

Previous meeting minutes

  • Jim motions to accept minutes. Unanimous approval.

Treasurer’s Report

  • Two large insurance payments (total of $5,555)

  • Found $600 check from Kai Ehitu in bottom of lock box while cleaning shed. Deposited two days ago, no complaints from bank so far.

  • Lisa motions to accept treasurer’s report. Unanimous approval.

Moku report (Lisa)

  • Talked about policy and procedures

  • Miloli‘i changed club colors to green and gold, changed name to “Miloli‘i Canoe Club”

  • Moku to work with Department of Forestry to ensure koa trees remain for generations to come

  • Need to bring copies of all HCRA waivers and IDs to all regattas

Coach’s report (Bob)

  • All canoes passed weighing

  • Might have Novice B mixed and Novice A Men

  • Could potentially have a 13-girls crew (if they show up)

  • Having trouble securing boats to borrow for first regatta, Daniel will call Uncle Beau

Equipment Report (Daniel)

  • Fiberglass canoes done

  • Working as quickly as possible on Kama O Kalani, will make ‘iakos after finishing hull

  • Bob still looking for trailer registration, will call Ted tomorrow. If still can’t locate, will get a new copy at DMV on Friday.

  • Might bring some stuff back from Kona storage, put in shed. Will need to put any covers in bins. Kyle has some, will check to see if lids have adequate seal.

Fundraisers (Jim)

  • Nothing

Board vacancies

  • Jim makes a motion for Aron Risley to fill one of the board vacancies. Unanimous approval.

  • Daniel makes a motion for Steve Columbo to fill the remaining spot. Unanimous approval.

  • Jim motions to select Lisa Legler for president. Unanimous approval.

  • Jim motions to select Aron Risley for vice president. Unanimous approval.

Bylaws

  • Tabled to next meeting, awaiting revised copy from Mac Amos

Paddling Clinic from Bruce Ayau

  • Tuesday, 5/10, at 4:00pm

  • $200 fee

  • Jim makes a motion for the club to cover the $200 fee. Unanimous approval.

Don Reimann locks

  • Don only paddles once or twice a month

  • Daniel cut, talked to him at time. Daniel will replace locks.

    • Kyle will send email offering to reimburse purchase of new locks

Beach directors

  • Lyle will take over Tuesday ‘ohana paddling while Mike Bernstone is gone

Great Waikoloa Race

  • Need to make sure letter made it to Waikoloa Land Co. for right of entry

  • Need permits, inform the Coast Guard on the course

  • Race on August 27, 2016

  • Lisa will send email out to Moku reps asking for feedback on last
