Never held a paddle before? No problem! Our Ohana (recreational) paddling sessions are the perfect introduction to the traditions of Hawaiian outrigger canoeing. You’ll get a great workout, connect with friendly faces, and immerse yourself in the rich cultural history of the islands—all in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

If you are a full-time or part-time resident, new to the area, curious about our club, or even a novice who has never held a paddle before, we invite you to come down and experience authentic Hawaiian culture and history firsthand in a friendly, relaxed environment.
Ohana (recreational) paddling is a great way to get and stay in shape, meet new friends, and learn outrigger canoe paddling skills. We welcome guests and new paddlers with open arms!
📝 How to Join an Ohana Paddling Session
If you’re interested in joining us for a paddle, follow these three simple steps:
Step 1: Complete the Waiver Form
All paddlers must have a completed waiver on file before signing up to paddle.
Step 2: Make a Donation (Non-Members Only)
If you are not the guest of a current Waikoloa Canoe Club member, we kindly ask for a $20 donation to support our club operations. This donation is non-refundable.

Step 3: Sign Up for a Paddling Session
Once you submit your waiver (and your donation, if applicable), you can use our SignUpGenius page to reserve your spot.

Important Guidelines
- Each paddler must register with their own unique email address.
- Be sure to click “Submit” after adding or removing your registration.
- All paddlers must sign up in advance — no walk-ups, please.
- If your plans change, please update your registration so others can join.
- Paddling is weather-dependent. Beach managers make final crew assignments to ensure balanced canoes. Limit of one guest or new paddler per canoe.
For Members Bringing Guests
- Please share this page with your guests so they can complete the waiver and sign up.
- Provide a brief orientation and paddling tips before arriving at the beach.
- Retrieve a paddle and PFD for your guest from the equipment shed.
