Due to Covid 19 restrictions, the board meeting was held via conference call. There was no sign-in sheet.

Board members present: Chuck Pfaff, Cliff Gilley, Randy Anderlee, Jim Albone, Glenn Leonberger, Vickie Serrao, Bary Foster, Ronald Hayward and Rami Ring

Head Coach Ed Teixeira absent

Secretary & recorder of minutes: Rami Ring

Chuck starts the meeting at 6:00 pm. Cliff makes a motion to accept the minutes from May. The motion is seconded and approved by all.

Treasurer’s Report (Glenn)

Overall in good shape. Money for skirts & hoops have been paid. Reimbursement has been paid to Rami for World Sprints, and the account is closed out. Federal taxes have been mailed, applied for state exemption for filing, which was approved through 5/19/2023. We need to refine every 3 years for an exemption. We don’t average more than $20,000/year in donations.

Coach’s Report

Ed is absent due to attending his sister’s funeral in Oahu.

We heard from a Kawaihae paddler that they are not doing rec paddling either. There were rumors that a 6 man crew went out (possibly from Mauna Kea???) & fined $1000 for not following Covid guidelines. According to parks and recreation, no organized sports activities are permitted.

Submitted by mail for permit for GWCR, but no permits are issued until the Gov. lifts the ban.

Equipment Report

Ed will pick up the skirts while he is in Oahu. Steve is still fixing/repairing iakos. J2 & J6 are the only canoes on the beach rigged.

MOKU & HCRA Report (Cliff)

Bill Rosehill from Kona Athletic Club returned our check.

Regarding HCRA insurance, insurance company is waiting until the end of the year for any decision on any possible credit. Review of HCRA ByLaws are currently in preparation to rewrite. Pier at Kailua-Kona being surveyed for next year.

Membership Report (Chuck)

Nothing happening

Old Business

GWCR-Permits not issued until the Gov lifts the ban. Discussion of possibly cancelling the race, but it was decided to wait until July 1 to make a decision.

Rash guards-not everyone responded…holding off until get more responses.

New Business

Doug from Kai Opua talked to Jim, rec paddlers need to use life jackets while paddling. Current HCRA insurance requires rec paddlers needing to comply with life jacket usage. Kai Opua’s paddlers will all be registering as racers, they will be raising their rates to cover the additional charge that insurance companies will charge.

Ohana paddling not happening, decision to be made at a later date. There was a theft of an OC1 from the canoe racks. A paddle board is also missing.

The next meeting will be held on Wed., July 1, 2020 at 6:00 pm. Place to be determined.
